The Volcano has been one of the most praised vaporizers to date. There are many dedicated Volcano fans and it's become the standard vaporizer for Holland's premium coffee shops. I was quite excited when I was finally able to get a chance to try it out.
It's obvious a lot of attention and detail went into designing the Volcano; the unit is aesthetically pleasing and built out of quality materials. Loading/stirring/unloading the Volcano's herb chamber was by far the easiest out of any other vaporizer I have used. The startup time was acceptable and the ready light is a nice feature I have yet to see on other vaporizers. I really like the idea of a balloon system for times when multiple people may be present. Trying to hand off a bag of full of vapor may not seem quite natural but it's a lot easier than crowding around a box and it's a treat to watch the bag fill. The "bag system" is also great for people using naural herbs for medical purposes who need to dose accurately. The bag seemed to alter the taste of the vapor somewhat. I noticed a "lighter" vapor compared to some of the direct-inhale systems I have used. I seemed to find that inhaling vapor that had completely cooled wasn't quite as satisfying for me as warm vapor. The vaporizer is very efficient but only if the user "stirs" the bowl and turns up the temperature after every one or two bag-fulls. I recommend starting with a temp setting of 6 and moving up to 8. I found that the tobacco was always nicely toasted and never burnt - even at the max temperature setting. Storz and Bickel have been selling the Volcano since November 2000 and their excellent reputation and large number of happy customers truly show what a fine product it is. |
